The Certified Manager (CM) Program

The Certified Manager Program is a professional training program sponsored by
the Institute of Certified Professional Managers (ICPM). The CM Program develops and enhances general management skills and prepares individuals to take the CM Management Certification exams. Those who successfully complete the CM exams achieve the CM certification, a prestigious credential that recognizes competency and professionalism of managers worldwide in all fields.

Content of the CM Program integrates contemporary management theory with
the more traditional management approach of planning, leading, organizing and controlling.

The Institute of Certified Professional Managers (ICPM) is the world’s largest certifying organization for the management profession. Founded by the National Management Association (NMA), the International Management Council (IMC) and management educators. ICPM has been certifying managers for over 35 years. With over 11,000 managers certified worldwide, ICPM is committed to raising the competency and Professionalism of managers in all fields.

The combination of a comprehensive curriculum and application-based assessment exams make the CM certification a reliable indicator of managerial competence and leadership potential.  The CM program is the product of a comprehensive Job Task Analysis study conducted by the Institute of Certified Professional Managers (ICPM) to identify the knowledge, skills and abilities mid-level managers need to perform competently on-the-job.  CM applicants must meet eligibility requirements for education and experience and pass three CM competency exams to obtain the “CM” professional credential, which is recognized worldwide.

Why Certification?

Certification has long been a mark of competency and credibility. Project Management Professionals (PMPs), Chartered Financial Analysts (CFAs), and Microsoft Certified Professionals (MCPs) have all successfully used certification in their respective fields to distinguish them from their colleagues. CM Exams:

The three CM exams coincide with content covered in the CM study manuals. The exams are comprised of multiple-choice questions that test knowledge, decision-making, and analytical skills. The exam is for 2 hours with 100 multiple choice questions. The exam will be proctored by one of our Certified Manager instructors. Please note it’s a closed book exam, mobile phones or notes are not allowed.

CM Certification:

After successfully passing the CM exams, the delegate’s achievement will be recognized by friends, family, co-workers, clients, senior management, and the business community. New CMs receive a congratulatory letter, CM certificate, CM lapel pin, and a copy of the ICPM Code of Ethics. They are entitled to use the title “Certified Manager” and the registered CM title designation, i.e. John Smith, CM.


The Certified Manager Program is conducted in a classroom setting for 5 days for each module. Ideally these are spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart to give the delegates the opportunity to write the exam between modules:

  1. Module “1” (Foundations of Management).
    (5 days) This will cover the whole module plus revision.
    Exam – 2 hours on a pre-set date.
  1. Module “2” (Planning and Organizing).
    (5 days) This will cover the whole module plus revision.
    Exam – 2 hours on a pre-set date.
  1. Module “3” (Leading and Controlling).
    (5 days) This will cover the whole module plus revision.
    Exam – 2 hours on a pre-set date.
